A child is not a tabula rasa

A child is not a tabula rasa. If you offer every child the same knowledge and experiences, it will not result in the same knowledge and behaviour in each child. Every child has a certain genetic inheritance and uniqueness. Therefore, no matter how much you try to put into a child, if he does not have the genetic inheritance or uniqueness in the areas of movement, thinking, doing, speaking, the child will never be able to excel in these. And even if it has the genetics for it, the child still becomes paralysed under too much pressure and/or suffocation. A child will excel if he is allowed to exist in an environment that senses the child’s needs. If he is given the space to explore everything that he engages with spontaneously. Then the child will also show interest in things that fit him less, but through doing will learn to understand that he needs some knowledge and skills to be who he is. Nourishing children in all aspects with what they specifically need initially requires the familiar social and natural living environment they know, so that all energy can flow for the sake of their own development. So that he can walk his own path (Tao) in balance (Yin & Yang) and without force (Wu wei).

There are more and more children and youngsters, beside adults, who are burning out from over-demanding (burn-out) or boredom (bore-out) arising from industrial thinking that assumes that results and productivity are only the result of ‘making as many people as possible do the same thing’. The world is at a tipping point where an increasing amount of people understands that results and productivity can only now be achieved by allowing every child, every youngster, every adult to develop fully connected. This requires sensitivity and space to be able to sense and acknowledge what someone needs. The same is abundant and no longer meets needs; it is the difference that every child, every youngster, and every adult can make that the world needs now.

Trias Vita is a centre for lifelong development that supports children and young people to develop in connection with themselves, others, and the natural environment from an ecosystemic Taoist life perspective: finding your path (Tao) in balance (Yin & Yang) and without force (Wu wei).
